Company Overview

What we do

MAD Technology's commercial value sits in three things: exclusive access to world-class principal manufacturers, deep applications knowledge developed over more than two decades, and the ability to keep instruments running in a country where the manufacturer is 13,000 kilometres away.

The company supplies analytical instruments for laboratory sample preparation (CEM Corporation), sample introduction systems and autosamplers for ICP/ICP-MS (Teledyne CETAC), laser ablation systems for direct solid analysis (Teledyne Photon Machines), and ICP/ICP-MS consumables compatible with all spectrometer brands (Precision Glassblowing) — alongside installation, commissioning, method development, training and repair services.

Our History

Twenty-six years of continuous trading — and a decade before that.

Both founding directors bring direct prior experience selling and supporting competing analytical instrumentation into the same South African market MAD now serves — a credibility story that predates the company itself.

Our Team

The people behind the business.

Bruce Hunter — Director

Qualified as an Electronic Engineer. Worked at Sasol Synthetic Fuels for two years before joining SMM Instruments (Setpoint Instruments) in 1992 as an instrument service engineer, moving into sales within six months and becoming the company's Varian AA and ICP product and applications manager — a role he held until founding MAD Technology in 2000. Responsible for sales and marketing.

Charles Martin — Director

Joined SMM Instruments in 1994, responsible for Varian AA and ICP sales across Sub-Saharan African countries excluding South Africa, until founding MAD Technology in 2000. Holds responsibility for export sales, finance and administration.

Both directors came from SMM Instruments (trading as Setpoint Instruments) — the prior local distributor for Varian atomic absorption and ICP instrumentation — before founding MAD Technology in 2000, bringing direct prior experience selling and supporting competing analytical technology into the same market MAD now serves from the sample-preparation and sample-introduction side.
