Correct formulation is central to performance and safety.
Trace metal impurities in plastics are a specific and serious concern — overlapping directly with Consumer Products wherever the finished product is a consumer good.
Filler content
Phoenix BLACK determines filler content in filled plastics and polymers up to 10× faster than a conventional muffle furnace. Compliance standards: ASTM D5630 (filler content in polyolefin compositions) and ASTM D1506 (carbon black content in polyethylene), both by muffle furnace technique.
Solids content
SMART 6 determines solids content in liquids such as polyvinyl alcohol prior to polymerisation, and across liquids, solids, slurries and powders generally.
Additive extraction
The MARS 6, configured for microwave solvent extraction, extracts additives such as slip agents, antibacterials and antioxidants using a fraction of Soxhlet's solvent. EDGE is CEM's current dedicated extraction platform and supersedes this configuration in current-generation practice — but the underlying application, additive extraction from polymers, is unchanged.
Trace metals digestion
EasyPrep vessel-configured MARS 6 or BLADE digestion ahead of ICP elemental analysis, relevant to process quality control and consumer safety compliance.
Discover 2.0 synthesises novel monomers and polymers at research scale, feeding into the Materials Science industry for advanced polymer development work.
