Autosamplers & Automation
Unattended sample delivery from micro-volume to extended-rack high-throughput — standard, flowing-rinse, stirring and rapid-introduction configurations.

Loading a rack at 17:00 is the least of it.
The simplest benefit of an autosampler is unattended operation — loading a rack and collecting results in the morning. The more important benefits are analytical: carryover, contamination and settling problems that no amount of operator care can fully solve by hand, solved instead by the autosampler's own design.
A configuration for every sample introduction problem.
ASX-260, ASX-520, ASX-560 — general purpose, reliable, wide ICP/ICP-MS compatibility.
ASX-110FR (metal-free, flowing rinse, from 500 µL), ASX-112FR.
ASX-1400 (with stirring paddles), ASX-1600.
XLR-8, XLR-860 — up to 720 sample positions.
A settled sample gives a meaningless result.
Used oil wear-metal analysis predicts mechanical failure in engines, gearboxes and hydraulic systems before it happens — by tracking iron, chromium, copper, lead, aluminium and silicon in lubricating oil. South African mining and heavy transport run extensive oil-analysis programmes on haul trucks, draglines, mills and locomotives, because an unplanned gearbox failure costs orders of magnitude more than the monitoring programme.
The problem: used oil samples contain suspended wear metal debris that settles between sampling and analysis. The ASX-1400 and ASX-1600 homogenise each sample with a variable-speed stirring paddle immediately before aspiration, with an independent rinse for both probe and stirrer and a drip cup preventing cross-contamination — a purpose-built solution for a large South African market segment.
Half the run isn't measurement.
Roughly half of an ICP-MS run's clock time is not measurement time — it is the probe travelling, rinsing, and the sample washing into and out of the spray chamber. ASXpress Plus pre-loads the next sample into a valve loop while the current one is being measured, then switches it in instantly, cutting this dead time significantly. For a commercial laboratory billing per sample, this is a direct increase in revenue capacity from a modest accessory.
Wherever an ICP-OES or ICP-MS runs, an autosampler runs with it.

Questions we are asked about the Autosamplers & Automation.
Unattended operation is the simplest benefit, but the more important ones are analytical: eliminating carryover between high-concentration samples, avoiding trace-level contamination, keeping particulate homogenised in oil/wear-metal samples, and removing dead time between measurements — problems that autosampler design solves more reliably than manual technique.
The ASX-110FR is built for ultra-trace ICP-MS work: metal-free, high-purity polymer construction, a PFA sample path and an enclosure hood minimise contamination, and a continuous flowing rinse eliminates carryover between samples. It also handles micro-volumes from 500 µL.
Used oil samples contain suspended wear metal debris that settles between sampling and analysis. An autosampler drawing from a settled sample gives a meaningless result. The ASX-1400 and ASX-1600 homogenise each sample with a variable-speed stirring paddle immediately before aspiration, with independent rinse for both probe and stirrer, and a drip cup that prevents cross-contamination.
Roughly half of an ICP-MS run's clock time is not measurement — it's the probe travelling, rinsing, and the sample washing into and out of the spray chamber. ASXpress Plus pre-loads the next sample into a valve loop while the current one is being measured, then switches it in instantly, cutting this dead time and increasing throughput for a commercial laboratory billing per sample.
Standard configurations cover typical laboratory rack sizes; for very large sample loads, the XLR-8 and XLR-860 extended-rack configurations provide up to 720 sample positions.
